I’m Calvin Cheung, a UK-based photographer
For ten years I lived two lives in Hong Kong: a banker by day and a photographer at weekends. After being named a Master of WPPI in 2022, I made myself a promise of five years to pursue photography full time. I chose the UK, and began again from scratch.
I arrived knowing only a handful of friends, so I built my world one conversation at a time, with stylists, models, designers and studio owners. Slowly, word spread of a Hong Kong photographer in town doing something different. I entered the British Photography Awards hoping simply to reach the finalists’ list. Instead, I won first place in the Wedding category in 2022, took the Fashion title in 2023, and won Wedding again in 2024. Each win was a quiet reassurance that my way of seeing could find a home in a new culture and landscape.
Those awards opened doors I had never imagined: London Fashion Week, campaigns for UK charities and NGOs, and a Premier League TV programme filmed inside Old Trafford.
Moving here was an act of faith, a leap into the unknown, and faith remains the compass behind my work. The UK itself has become my muse. From misty countryside mornings to London’s narrow alleyways, its landscapes and hidden corners are silent collaborators in every story I tell, and its soft, moody light suits the way I see.
Today, I offer a full range of photography under one roof: weddings and preweddings, fashion and portraits, families, and events both intimate and grand. Whatever the occasion, each session receives the same care, planning and storytelling.
Photography taught me to find light in the dark and beauty in the ordinary. That is what I bring to every shoot: focus, gratitude, and an eye for the next moment worth keeping.
